LARESHA’S PRIORITIES FOR YPSI

Mental health in our community is a major problem that’s being talked about, but overlooked. Creating a mental health app that is run by licensed Social Workers, and Social Work students from Eastern Michigan University, and University of Michigan school of Social Work. The fact that the hospitals, jails, prisons, and psychiatric hospitals are full because there’s no mental health help. I can get a flu shot faster than I can receive mental health services.

The housing crisis is complete insanity. We need to get rid of junk fees, and create funding to stop evictions.

With restorative justice we can help our youth heal mentally. Locking up our youth are really making them better criminals.
I am thrilled to introduce myself. My name is LaResha Thornton .
I’m running as your Democratic representative for Ypsilanti Township Trustee.
I'm a mother of three amazing daughters, a graduate of the University of North Alabama with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Marketing, and a woman who has lived through a nightmare most parents can only imagine.
My journey began with the hope of a better life for my daughters, and a dream that was shattered by the reality of a broken system that failed to protect me and my children.
My story is one of a mother facing unimaginable abuse, neglect, and a lack of support. A story that needs to be told. A story that needs to be heard. A story that needs to be changed for others.
This is not just a political campaign for me; it's a personal mission. It's about giving a voice to the voiceless, advocating for families who have been let down by the very system designed to help them, and fighting for the resources that are desperately needed to break the cycle of violence and despair.
